Tuesdays are never easy on Dancing with the Stars, but special performances by singer Christina Gimme (accompanied by Macy's Stars of Dance) and Donny Osmond, who debuted a duet with X Factor UK sensation Susan Boyle, helped ease the tension of elimination night.
When it came down to the inevitable, Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff narrowly escaped the bottom two after the pair, who suffered a misstep on Monday, was placed in jeopardy alongside the lowest scorers this week: Bristol Palin with partner Mark Ballas and Kirstie Alley with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
After four weeks on the floor, Bristol and Mark were given their leave from the competition. As her parents looked on, a grateful Bristol spoke to the ballroom and her fans at home.
"We made it to week four and I'm happy with that," she said. "I had an awesome time and an awesome partner ...I wish everyone the best of luck."
As for next week, team dance captains were announced, appointing high scorers Gilles Marini with partner Peta Murgatroyd and Shawn Johnson with partner Derek Hough as the group's leaders. Their task: to choreograph a dance to Psy's Gangnam Style and Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe, respectively.
The couples have been divvied as follows:
Team Gilles & Peta: Gangnam Style
- Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy
- Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
- Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke
Team Shawn & Derek: Call Me Maybe
- Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel
- Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani
- Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff
Tune in next Monday for an all-new Dancing with the Stars at 8/7c on ABC.
