Arsenio Reveals Struggle for Late-Night Return

Arsenio Hall recently made his long-awaited return to late-night this year, but as he reveals on Oprah's Next Chapter, it wasn't easy convincing others to put him back on the air.

Hall first hosted his own late-night show, The Arsenio Hall Show, from 1989 to 1994. During the five-year stint, he gained popularity, bringing on guests from comedian Eddie Murphy to then-presidential-candidate Bill Clinton.

Although the show was popular during his first run, it took many years for him to get a distributor to pick up his show for a second go-around, as he recounts to Oprah Winfrey on her show Oprah's Next Chapter.

In fact, Arsenio admitted to Oprah that it took five years for him from conceptualizing a revival of his late-night show to finding someone to pick up the show.

He recounted getting the support of his peers at a star-studded party, but was unable to make the revival come to fruition until years later.

"Diddy said, 'You got to come back! and I'm like, 'I want to, but it ain't that easy,'" Arsenio recalls. "...Michael [Jackson] was there the night we partied to it. ... Michael was like, 'You should have never left!'"
