CLIP: LL Cool J Talks Rap on 'Queen Latifah Show'

Multi-platinum rapper and NCIS: Los Angeles actor LL Cool J stopped by The Queen Latifah Show to discuss everything from love to music, and even reminisced about the beginning of his career.

In this clip from The Queen Latifah Show, LL Cool J reveals the different standards rappers were judged by during the early years of the genre's existence.

"You've got to remember that when rap music started, they were trying to judge us by rock and roll standards," LL tells Queen Latifah. "At the time when hip hop started, Rock stars were very much anti-commercial… you're not going to see a rock star with a cologne, you know? But, you see, coming from the inner city where hip hop came from, we were all about expanding and growing, and doing whatever it took to get moms a house."

"The rules were different," he added. "You gotta get moms a house!"
