It's hard to tell Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp (left) and the late Aaliyah (right) apart!

Shipp stars as the singer in Lifetime's biopic, premiering Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. The TV movie is based on Christopher Farley's book, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, that follows Aaliyah's rise to fame and her sudden death.

In Aug. 2001, the R&B star was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas after filming the music video for her single "Rock the Boat." She was 22.

Shipp takes on the role after Disney Channel's Zendaya bowed out on the part. "After actually starting the project, I feel like there were certain things that were missing," Zendaya told ET at the 2014 BET Awards. "And things that weren't 100 percent taken care of. And I feel like, if I'm going to portray one of my idols, and someone I feel so important and strongly about, it has to be done right, and it has to be done 120 percent. So I just felt like it wasn't there, so it just wasn't a good choice for me."
