Prepare to See a Lot Less of Tyler Hoechlin on MTV's 'Teen Wolf'
Teen Wolf is losing one of its biggest breakout stars.
Tyler Hoechlin, who has played the brooding Derek Hale since season one, will not be a series regular when MTV's hit show returns for season five. The 27-year-old actor has decided to focus on his budding film career, which includes a role in director Richard Linklater’s highly anticipated ‘80s college film, That’s What I’m Talking About.
“We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of Teen Wolf,” executive producer Jeff Davis told BuzzFeed News.
Though Davis and the show promises it won’t be the last fans see of Hoechlin.
It's true that @TylerL_Hoechlin will not be a series regular in #TeenWolf S5, but that doesn't mean you've seen the last of him...— TEEN WOLF (@MTVteenwolf) March 11, 2015
And if you don’t quite understand what the show is losing, let this wonderfully thorough Tumblr post explain why we love (and will miss) Derek Hale.
