The first promo for Hairspray Live! is here -- and it’s the first time we’re seeing the stars in character!

Hairspray Live!
is bound to get everyone singing and dancing along to the catchy tunes, and as the buildup to the live production intensifies, its A-list stars are ready to take on the challenge.

“It’s very overwhelming and very exciting. Penny’s been my favorite character since the start,” Ariana Grande said earlier this month of playing Tracy’s BFF, Penny. “This is such a dream come true for me because at heart, theater is everything to me. Pop music is so fun, but this is way much more fun. So much more.”

Hough recently told ET that sister Julianne’s performance in Fox’s Grease: Live “raised the bar, as far as the way it was shot and the way it was done.” “We have a great team, amazing directors, amazing camera operators,” the 31-year-old Dancing With the Stars vet added, revealing that “they're actually building a studio for us just for this. It's pretty incredible.”

As for whether original Hairspray stars may be making cameos in the upcoming live musical, there’s always a chance! Marissa Jaret Winokur, who originated the role of Tracy in the Broadway show, told ET she’s “down for anything,” adding, “I just want to be a part of it and have fun. I'm excited."

Hairspray Live!,
which will be filmed on the Universal backlot in Los Angeles, also stars Rosie O’Donnell, Andrea Martin and Sean Hayes.

Hairspray Live!
will air Dec. 7 on NBC.
