Mariah Carey's rise to fame is getting the TV treatment.

Starz network confirms to ET that an untitled fictional scripted drama series is in the works that will be based on Carey's real-life experiences. The 47-year-old pop star is executive producing the series along with her friend, Brett Ratner, as Deadline was first to report.

Nina Colman will pen the script, which will take place in 1986 New York City and will follow the rise of a bi-racial 16-year-old girl's aspiring singer-songwriter.

News of the scripted series comes after Carey starred in her own reality series, Mariah's World, earlier this year. She also starred in the 2001 movie, Glitter, which -- like the upcoming drama show -- was about a young singer ascending to super stardom.

In January, Carey's manager, Stella Bulochnikov, dished to ET about the GRAMMY winner's "secret project."

"We do have a scripted drama that we are developing that has not been announced about Mariah's life that's going to be incredibly poignant," she revealed. As for who would play Carey, who her manager describes as "one in seven billion," Bulochnikov wasn't sure at the time.
