Baby Sussex is almost here, but before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle add another branch to the royal family tree, let's take a look at the historic lineage that Baby Sussex will be born into.

The House of Windsor is headed, of course, by Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Britain's longest monarch, as well as the world's longest-reigning queen regnant and female head of state. Born in 1926, Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI.

Elizabeth married Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark in 1947, whereupon he relinquished his Greek and Danish titles to become Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, adopting the surname Mountbatten from his maternal grandparents. They had four children together, who all currently stand in line to the British throne, with the eldest, Harry's father, Prince Charles of Wales, set to be first in line following his mother's death or retirement.
