Mena's love of hair started early. As a teenager, he began styling to help his sister regain confidence while dealing with alopecia, an experience that shaped how he approaches beauty to this day.

"I learned to create hairstyles that helped cover bald spots and made her feel good. That experience showed me how powerful hair can be not just aesthetically, but emotionally too," he shares.

One of the techniques he mastered: Applying high-quality hair extensions, which he uses to add volume, fullness, and length without sacrificing hair health.

"Great Lengths hair is ethically sourced, which is incredibly important to me. Beyond that, the diversity of it allows me to create endless looks and fill in areas that need support," the hair expert explains.

And while extensions are often blamed for breakage, Mena says the opposite can be true when they're done right.

"The biggest misconception is that hair extensions damage your hair. I work with many clients who come to me with severely damaged hair, and we use properly applied extensions to protect their natural hair and help grow. They can act as a shield."

Before booking your install, the hairstylist believes a little research goes a long way.

"It's crucial to know how long your technician has been working with extensions and to always have a consultation. Bring reference photos and be clear about the look you want. Communication is everything," he shares.

Once they're in, a simple upkeep routine keeps everything looking and feeling its best.

"Replacing extensions on schedule is essential, and it's important to condition and treat the hair underneath the bonds. Taking care of both the extensions and your natural hair ensures healthy growth," the Great Lengths ambassador notes.

His top tips for luscious locks: "Incorporate heatless styles, protect your hair by wearing it up when needed, and use shampoos and conditioners that are tailored to your specific hair type. ... I want the hair to look beautiful today and still feel great ten years from now. The goal is natural and lasting."
