Season three of 'Designated Survivor' will stream June 7 on Netflix.

He built the nation, he survived the fallout, but his fight has just begun.

After being canceled by ABC and picked up by Netflix, Kiefer Sutherland returns as President Tom Kirkman for season three of the political drama Designated Survivor. The streaming service released the first trailer on Wednesday, introducing the POTUS' new challenge: campaigning.

Exploring today's world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and "fake news," season three will see Kirkman asking himself, "What does it take to make a leader?" and "What price will he be willing to pay?"

The trailer also shows the president's key players and team making life-changing decisions, as personal lives and careers become tangled and intertwined. Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, Kal Penn and Maggie Q co-star with Anthony Edwards, Lorraine Zimmer, Dontae Evans and Isabel Pardo as new series regulars.

Designated Survivor premiered on ABC in 2016, running for two seasons before it was canceled. In September, Netflix saved the series, picking it up for an additional season. The story follows a low-level cabinet member who was suddenly catapulted to the position of President of the United States after a devastating terrorist attack hit during the State of the Union, killing all those ahead of him in the presidential succession line.

Just last month, the streaming service shared a two-minute recap of the series for new viewers who wanted to catch up before season three aired.
