John Boyega Reveals Whether He’d Take on the Role of Marvel’s Blade (Exclusive)

The 26-year-old actor opened up about the possibility of following in Wesley Snipes' footsteps at the premiere of 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' on Wednesday.

Between Star Wars, Pacific Rim and his other films, John Boyega's got his hands full -- but fans have already picked out his next role.

The 26-year-old actor is fans' choice to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Blade, with many actively campaigning for him to take on the part and creating mockups of him in character. Boyega briefly addressed the possibility during a Reddit AMA earlier this month, and while speaking with ET's Courtney Tezeno on Wednesday, it was clear he'd put some real thought into it.

"You know, a role like that for me, it would require a serious transformation," Boyega revealed at the Pacific Rim:Uprising premiere in Los Angeles, before referencing the Blade films Wesley Snipes starred in. "I want to see Wesley Snipes come back in the role."

"I think it would be good to see him helm Blade again," he added. "That'd be good."

For now, Boyega is focusing on Pacific Rim: Uprising, where he stars as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba's character in the first film.

"[Elba] sent me a nice message congratulating me, and that was great," the actor said smiling, before noting that most of the pressure of shooting the movie came from his involvement as a producer.

"Definitely there was pressure. You want to make a story that's dynamic enough to bring in a new audience, as well as please the audience that loved Pacific Rim 1," he explained. "At the same time, this is a big, massive movie that we didn't really have as much time to shoot, so it was definitely a ballsy move, you know? This is something that we took a risk on."

"[But] it's brilliant," Boyega shared. "I really appreciate the opportunity to be able to be involved and creative in this way. It's incredible."

Pacific Rim: Uprising hits theaters on Friday. See more on Boyega in the video below.
