Ashton Kutcher has just been cast in arguably the meatiest role of his career, playing the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Variety reports.

Ashton Kutcher is Headed to Space

Known for his comedic roles, Kutcher was last seen on the big screen in Garry Marshall's romantic comedy New Year's Eve, but he's also shown a flare for the dramatic in films like Spread and Bobby.

The tech savvy funnyman bares a striking resemblance to a young Jobs, who went from aberrant hippie to tech visionary. The indie pic, directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), has been aptly named Jobs and is expected to begin production in May.

Celebrities React to Steve Jobs' Passing

The day of Jobs' death, Kutcher tweeted one of his quotes, writing, "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. -- Steve Jobs RIP"
