Willard Jokes About Arrest: Movie Was 'Boring'

Fred Willard kept it funny and classy last night when he appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and openly discussed his recent arrest on suspicion of committing a lewd act at a Hollywood adult theater.

The comedic actor didn't shy away from the topic at all and addressed the incident right off the bat. "It's the last time I'm going to listen to my wife when she says, 'Why don't you go out and see a movie,'" he joked.

He explained further that he didn't even know adult theaters were still around and was intrigued by this particular venue. "I see this one, it has such a Polynesian, exotic look to it. I said maybe there's hula dancers in here, maybe there's mai tais." But he said after entering the theater he realized he was "the only one awake, sober and conscious."

When Fallon brought up possible movie titles that might have played in the theater -- The Firm, Free Willy and Anaconda -- the Best in Show star quipped that sadly it was something more like Get Shorty

While acknowledging the incident was "embarrassing as hell," he said he's tried to "laugh it off" and wants to set the record straight. "Let me say this, nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything's being sorted out as we speak." He added: "I have great respect for the authorities. I mean when we need a policeman, God bless 'em they're there. But if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, everything seems suspicious."

The conversation about his arrest then ended and Willard began talking about his new celebrity improvisation show on ABC, Trust Us With Your Life. But he did have one final statement on the matter. "My summary of the whole evening was: it's an interesting theater, a boring movie and a great place to take a nap."
