Hanks on 'High-Wire Acting' of 'Atlas'

Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon and several other cast members of Cloud Atlas premiered their epic film on a windy Wednesday night in Los Angeles, and ET's Christina McLarty was their first stop!

Hanks said working on the film was like a "very high-wire act ... but this was like flying without a net -- not just throwing a triple, but we've got to throw an octuple -- we've got to do eight flips without a net. But we nailed it!"

With Cloud Atlas, The Matrix trilogy directors The Wachowskis have teamed up with Run Lola Run director Tom Tywker for what may be the most ambitious big-screen spectacle in years. Based on the complex David Mitchell novel, the film tells six stories, each set in a different time and place -- from the 19th century South Pacific to a post-apocalyptic world -- which become intricately related to each other.

Hanks, Berry and Hugh Grant each play six roles in the saga that also features Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Keith David, Zhu Zhu, Xun Zhou, James D'Arcy, Donna Bae and Hugo Weaving.

Cloud Atlas opens in theaters this weekend.
