EXCLUSIVE: How Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick 'Faked' Their Way to 'Marvel's Iron Fist'

Marvel's Iron Fist, the latest offering in Netflix's ongoing Defenders-verse, is not a Game of Thrones reunion, technically speaking. It's more like if Loras Tyrell (played by Finn Jones) and Nymeria Sand (Jessica Henwick) teamed up to fight crime in New York, kung fu-style.

"We never did any scenes together [on GoT], but we knew each other from events and whatever," Jones explained to ET. "I think I'd been cast for about two weeks and you--"

"I had messaged you," Henwick chimed in, "Congratulating you, having not auditioned myself."

Jones booked Iron Fist's titular role (aka Danny Rand), while Henwick was up for Danny's samurai sidekick, Colleen Wing. "Jess was like, 'Hey, guess what? I'm coming over to L.A. to do a screen test,'" Jones recalled. "I'm like, 'Great! Get off the plane, come to my apartment, let's really rehearse these scenes before we go into the audition so we can give ourselves a head start."

The actors perhaps broke unspoken rules of auditioning but even so, their intentions were good. "We want to work together," Jones said. "You want to work with your friends." Still, they kept their covert rehearsals secret.

"We went in as if we hadn't been rehearsing the night before," Henwick said.

"Oh yeah, we faked it," Jones admitted.

"Like, 'Oh my god, Finn! So nice to see you!'"

"'Haven't seen you in ages! So good to see you!' And then just, like, nailed the scene."

"And they were like, 'Wow! You guys just bounce off each other so well!'" Henwick chuckled. "Natural..."

Lest anyone mistake any of this for favoritism, Jones quickly reminded Henwick that, at the end of the day, "talent comes through." More so, getting hired was only half the battle, since both had to endure an exhaustive amount of martial arts training before filming began. (Henwick Instagrammed photos of her bruises, which she says prompted comments like, "This is abuse! You need to, like, get out of the show!")

Now, Jones boasted, "We kick all the butt. We are the butt kickers."

"All the butts," Henwick agreed. "No butt will be safe from Iron Fist."

Ahead of Iron Fist's upcoming premiere (all 13 episodes are available for binging on March 17), Jones has already been hard at work on his next Marvel-Netflix project: The Defenders, an Avengers-like team-up between Iron Fist, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), which drops later this year. Henwick is also confirmed to pop up as Colleen Wing in the mix of supporting characters from each series.

"Danny understands the bigger threat, because he's been dealing it all throughout his life and all throughout season one of Iron Fist," Jones teased of how he fits into the super squad. "So, when he meets The Defenders, he's the one who really drives the group to understand the bigger picture."

Jones paused a moment then promptly concluded, "Umm...yeah. That's about as much as I can say." Henwick, who had been listening intently, eased: "I was like, 'How much can you say without spoiling everything?'"

"I never know how much trouble I'm going to get into," Jones admitted. "I think I did a good job though." Henwick smiled, a bit sheepishly, and confessed of herself: "I think I'm going to get in trouble for the Iron Fist innuendo."
