John Mayer Confirms His New Song Is About Katy Perry: 'Who Else Would I Be Thinking About?'

'Still Feel Like Your Man' is off Mayer's new album, 'The Search for Everything,' due out April 14.

John Mayer still misses Katy Perry.

The "Still Feel Like Your Man" star confirmed in a New York Times interview published Thursday that his catchy new tune about missing an ex is indeed about his pop star former flame.

"Who else would I be thinking about?" the 39-year-old singer-songwriter shared. "And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people."

“I’m a young guy. I like girls. I want girls to like me," Mayer acknowledged about his famous-dating past -- from Perry, to Jennifer Aniston, to Taylor Swift. "I want to make music and be thought of as attractive."

During the interview, Mayer also explained his self-imposed pop music sabbatical after two controversial interviews he gave in the midst of his tabloid-grabbing relationships.

"The elephant in the room is that we’re sort of talking about the double-headed dragon of the Rolling Stone interview and the Playboy interview," he said, realizing he had started to become a "clichéd rock star."

“I basically realized I’m no good at that, so I’m going to drop that major," the guitarist added. "What I did was probably semiconsciously just reboot it — control, alt, delete."

Now, after several toned down releases, with Mayer's new album, The Search for Everything, out April 14, the rock artist says he's ready to make bigger pop anthems again, a la "Your Body Is a Wonderland," likening the feat to how actor George Clooney effortlessly navigates between passion projects and big budget movies.

"There’s a guy who can make art house films and then just decide that he’s going to be in a blockbuster," he explained. "I remember thinking to myself, 'OK, I’m going to basically come out of retirement from blockbusters. It’s a choice to write pop songs, just like it’s a choice to write blues songs or folk songs. Let’s write the big ones that we are capable of writing'."
