John Lennon and Yoko Ono's son took home an Oscar for Best Short Film (Animated).

Sean Ono Lennon is officially an Oscar winner!

On Sunday, the 48-year-old son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono took home his very first Academy Award for Best Short Film (Animated) for THE WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko at the 2024 ceremony in Los Angeles.

During his acceptance speech, Sean took a moment to give his mom a sweet shout-out in honor of Mother's Day in the United Kingdom.

"Thank you. I just want to quickly say, my mother turned 91 this February, and today is Mother's Day in the U.K., so could everyone please say Happy Mother's Day, Yoko?" Sean asked the audience, who happily obliged. "Thank you so much. Thank you."

From the minds of Sean and Dave Mullins, the 11-minute animated film is an anti-war story that showcases John and Yoko's iconic holiday song "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and is set in an "alternate WWI reality where a senseless war rages on, two soldiers on opposite sides of the conflict play a game of chess," the short's description reads.

Previously speaking with the New York Times about the project, Sean spoke about the importance of the film, saying, "It's not about mining the past... You're competing with generations of people who have not grown up with the same culture and art that most people my age and older take for granted. So, for me, it's very important that the message of peace and love, which may be a trope, are not forgotten."

"What I don't want," he continued, "is for my mother and father's work to disappear with the sands of time."

John and Yoko were married for 13 years before the Beatles musician died in December 1980. Yoko is also mom to daughter Kyoko Chan Cox, whom she shares with ex-husband Anthony Cox. Meanwhile, John also welcomed son Julian Lennon during his marriage to ex-wife Cynthia Lennon.

The 2024 Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, airs live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on ABC. Follow along at ETonline.com for full Oscars coverage, including red carpet arrivals, the complete winners list and more.
