Selena Gomez Talks Being 'Best Friends' With Ex The Weeknd and Reuniting With Justin Bieber

"We ended it as best friends."

Justin Bieber isn't the only ex-boyfriend that Selena Gomez is still close to post-breakup.

The "Wolves" singer covers the recent issue of Billboard magazine and when asked about the "best part" of being single, she admits to keeping in touch with The Weeknd, even after the two called it quits last month.

"Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]," she says. "I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me."

Gomez goes on to talk about why she started hanging out with Bieber again, whom she's dated off and on since 2010. "I’m 25. I’m not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life," she explains. "So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away."

Gomez also says she's open to rekindling a lot of her old relationships. "I mean, I grew up with Demi [Lovato]. Nick and Joe [Jonas] and Miley [Cyrus] -- we’ve gone through seasons in our lives. I don’t think it’s as serious as people make things out to be half the time," she notes. "It’s just my life. I grew up with all of these people, and it’s so cool to see where everybody is."

It's been a year of ups and downs for Gomez. Over the summer, she underwent a kidney transplant due to complications with lupus, and says she has grown to love her surgical scar.

"It was really hard in the beginning. I remember looking at myself in the mirror completely naked and thinking about all the things that I used to b**ch about and just asking, 'Why?'" she recalls. "When I look at my body now, I just see life. There are a million things I can do -- lasers and creams and all that stuff -- but I’m OK with it. And by the way, there’s nothing wrong with [plastic surgery]."

Gomez is now most "proud" that she's able to be "part of the world," and lately, her world includes Bieber.

Earlier this month, Gomez showed up to the Los Angeles Kings Valley Ice Center in Panorama City, to cheer on Bieber during one of his weekly hockey games. At one point, Bieber sweetly skated up to Gomez to give her a kiss.

Here's a look at the sweet PDA moment:
