With over a half a million children currently in the American foster care system, the subject of adoption is in dire need of some recognition this holiday season, and celebs like Katherine Heigl, Denise Richards, and Martina McBride are doing their part to bring some much-needed attention to the cause.
Katherine Heigl, a foster mother herself, teamed up with adopted sister Meg to stress an importance for everyone to become parents, regardless of whether or not the child is biologically yours.
"I think it's so rewarding for everybody and it's just so amazing to become a parent no matter how you become one," explained Katherine.
"I have this amazing, beautiful daughter in my life that I wouldn't have had otherwise and I have this amazing wonderful beautiful sister in my life that I wouldn't have had otherwise so I think adoption should be on everybody's mind and people should be a little more open to it."
Denise Richards, who recently adopted a baby girl, says she "didn't even have to think" about whether she should adopt, it was something she'd been destined to someday accomplish. "I've always said that children pick their parents and my daughter Eloise found me another way and it has been such an incredible blessing for our family."
