'Parks And Rec' Ending After Season 7

NBC

NBC announced that 'Parks and Recreation' is coming to an end after seven seasons.

The most beloved parks department on television is dispersing. Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson, Tom Haverford and all the other colorful characters on NBC's acclaimed sitcom Parks and Recreation will be bidding adieu to the NBC show after season 7.

The network announced the news on Saturday that the comedy -- starring Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Retta, and Jim O'Heir -- is ending.

Parks and Rec
follows the day-to-day trials and tribulations of a small town's Parks department, led by the brilliant and insanely ambitious Leslie Knope (Poehler). Until midway through this previous season it also starred Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones. Both Lowe and Jones left to pursue other television ventures.

The sitcom is NBC's longest-running show. However, the writers have said that they knew the end was near for some time, which is why the sixth season of the series jumped ahead several years, in order to tie up loose ends and move some of the program's relationships into new territories.

It hasn't been announced how many episodes of the final season NBC will order, or exactly when the new season will premiere, but the comedy has been moved to the mid-season lineup.
