Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Reunite to Present Best Director to Christopher Nolan at 2024 Golden Globes

Christopher Nolan came out victorious in the category.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are together again. The real-life best friends teamed up on Sunday to present the Best Director Award at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Before the big moment, Damon was surprised when Affleck showed up to his table inside the ceremony, and was captured on camera laughing and hugging his pal.

It's a big night for both guys as Damon is nominated for his role in Air, the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy-nominated flick that Affleck directed and starred in.

Affleck and Damon soon headed to the stage to present the Best Director award, with Oppenheimer's Nolan beating out Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig, Yorgos Lanthimos, Martin Scorsese and Celine Song.

Thanks to the split categories for comedy and drama films at the Golden Globes, all six of the Best Director nominees' films were also nominated for Best Picture, however the race will get even tighter as awards season progresses.

While the Globes aren't always a successful predictor of Oscars' success, it's likely we'll see most of these same names on the ballot when it comes time for Academy honors in March.

While Sunday marked Nolan's first-ever Golden Globe win, he did accept the trophy once before when the late Heath Ledger won for The Dark Knight, which Nolan directed.

"The only time I've ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend, Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me," Nolan said during his acceptance speech. "In the middle of speaking, I got all stuck, and Robert Downey Jr. caught my eye and gave me a look of love and support -- the same look he’s giving me now."

"I thought it would be simpler accepting for myself," he continued. "But, as a director, I realize I can only accept this on behalf of people. As directors, we bring people together and we try to get them to give their best."
