Jennifer Aniston Scores First Golden Globe TV Nomination Since 'Friends'

The actress was recognized for her work on the Apple TV+ series, 'The Morning Show.'

Jennifer Aniston is a Golden Globe nominee once again.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was joined by Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning and Susan Kelechi Watson on Monday morning to announce the complete list of nominees for the 2020 Golden Globes. Among those named was Aniston, who is up for Best Actress in a Television Series - Drama for her performance on The Morning Show

This marks her first TV nomination since her work on Friends, when she won the 2003 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical. Her most recent nomination was on the film side, in 2015, when she was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for Cake

“I have never loved a Monday morning more! How exciting to wake up to this news and I am so honored to be included with my incredible partner Reese, and all the other extraordinary actresses in our category,” Aniston said in a statement to ET. “Thank you to the HFPA for recognizing our show and all the passion we put into making it. From everyone at Apple TV+, the producers, directors, everyone both in front and behind the camera, we put our heart and soul into The Morning Show and I/we are so grateful that you recognized us with these nominations.”

Aniston, 50, is up against her co-star, Reese Witherspoon, who was also nominated in the same category. In total, the Apple TV+ original earned three nominations, including Best Television Series – Drama.

The recognition cements Aniston’s stellar work and welcomed return to TV. Speaking to ET ahead of The Morning Show premiere, she revealed that she had to “go to some places” in order to bring her character, Alex Levy, to life.

The former Friends star described the experience of making this show as “liberating and quite therapeutic,” revealing she got to unpack a lot of memories and things to evoke an emotion. Most of the time when they’d finished shooting, she felt like a massive weight had been lifted.

The 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- once again hosted by Rickey Gervais -- will air live Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 on NBC.
