Over the years, Olivia Colman, Claire Foy and Helen Mirren have all opened up to ET about playing Queen Elizabeth II. Mirren revealed she met the British monarch years before her Oscar-winning performance in ‘The Queen,’ and said she found her to be ‘absolutely charming.’ On Netflix’s ‘The Crown,’ Foy portrayed the Queen amid her wedding to Prince Philip, the death of King George VI and her soon-after coronation. Foy noted a vulnerability in Elizabeth that derives from being a wife and mother who ‘also happens to be the Queen of England.’ Amid the TV show’s changing of the guard after two seasons, Colman entered the world of Buckingham Palace. As opposed to playing Queen Anne in ‘The Favourite,’ Colman said her performance as Elizabeth was more challenging since England’s longest reigning monarch is one of the most recognizable modern-day figures. She joked, ‘There’s only one woman in the world with that hairdo!’
