Dwayne Johnson Gets Animated in Adorable New 'Moana' Trailer

The upcoming Disney movie, featuring newcomer Auli'i Cravalho and music from 'Hamilton's' Lin-Manuel Miranda, hits theaters Nov. 23.

The first trailer for Disney’s upcoming animated film, Moana, is here and it promises to be one movie you’re not going to want to miss.

The film follows Moana (Auli’i Cravalho), a young princess who sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her journey, she teams up with the legendary demi-god, her idol Maui (Dwayne Johnson).

In the trailer, we see Johnson’s stellar voice work in action as his character, Maui, tells us his remarkable, god-like story, capping it off with a tribal dance in an effort to impress Moana and her adorable pig friend, Pua. Seriously, where can we get one of our own?!

Hamilton
star Phillipa Soo and Alan Tudyk also lend their voices to the movie, with Lin-Manuel Miranda teaming up with Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina to do the music.

Last October, Disney introduced Cravalho, a 14-year-old Hawaiian native, to the world.

“When I first heard that there was going to be an audition to potentially play the role of Moana, I thought, ‘No way that could be me,’” said Cravalho, who didn’t audition for the role of Moana, but was discovered by a casting agent after singing at a charity competition.

Johnson shared a lovely note following Cravalho’s casting, writing at the time, “An awesome lesson to all young kids out there. Work hard, have confidence in yourselves and never think you’re not good enough because you never know what the future holds.”
