On Tuesday, the 30-year-old dancer revealed via Instagram that he wouldn't be able to attend the Richmond, Virginia, leg of the Dancing With the Stars: Live! tour as his brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and his fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd, are currently in the hospital awaiting the arrival of their first child together, a baby boy.
"Richmond, Virginia, I love you guys. I unfortunately can't be there at the show tonight," the season 23 DWTS champion explained. "As all of you know, I'm expected to be an uncle very soon. My [future] sister-in-law Peta Murgatroyd is literally delivering the baby as soon as I'm done with this video, hopefully. But I'll be back on the road tomorrow and somehow I promise to make it up to you, Richmond. Thank you so much and enjoy the show."
Val's caption for the brief video was equally sweet. "Amazing news. I'm about to be an uncle!" he wrote. "Family means the most to me so I'm with them now. Sadly I'll be missing the show tonight in Richmond but I'll be back in Lancaster tomorrow. Love y'all. and appreciate you understanding. I'll make it up to you."
As ET previously reported, Peta, 30, and Maksim, 36, headed to the hospital on Monday, which marked baby Chmerkovskiy's official due date. The DWTS duo celebrated the exciting moment by sharing a silly photo with fans.
"But first...a little make up ?," Maksim captioned an Instagram snap of Peta applying mascara to her lashes while sitting in a hospital chair.
