Porsha Williams Files for Divorce From Simon Guobadia After 1 Year of Marriage

The 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' star married Nigerian-born businessman Simon Guobadia in November 2022.

After a little over a year, Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia's marriage is coming to an end. According to court documents obtained by ET, the 42-year-old reality star filed for divorce from Guobadia, 59, on Thursday in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the documents filed on Feb. 22, Williams and Guobadia are currently living in a state of separation. Williams' filing says that the marriage is irretrievably broken and there are no prospects for a reconciliation. The two do have a prenuptial agreement dated Nov. 17, 2022, which determines their separate property interests and marital property interests. Williams is requesting that Guobadia pay her attorney's fees.

Williams and Guobadia tied the knot in November 2022, over a year after the pair announced their engagement in May 2021. The couple were married in a Nigerian traditional native law and custom ceremony followed by an American ceremony in Atlanta.

The pair's relationship had a bit of a whirlwind romance to it: the star confirmed her romance with her former Real Housewives of Atlanta co-star, Falynn Pina's, ex the same day he revealed that he had already popped the question after a month of dating.

Williams has previously stressed that her romance with Guobadia is completely unrelated to his and Pina's divorce, claiming that she and Pina are "not friends" -- despite Pina being introduced to the RHOA cast as Williams' friend.

It wasn't too long after the show aired that Williams and Guobadia's relationship began to take off and internet speculation began to rise, but Williams said the pair was simply at the "same place" at the "same time."

"I met a man who was at the same place that I was, at the same time," she said. "Mentally, spiritually and in love. "You have to think about, for me to get to a place to walk away from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, to walk away from Dish, put Porsha first and really concentrate on what I want to do and my purpose, faith walk, when you meet someone else at that exact same place, it's a powerful force. So, as soon as we started talking, you're talking to a man who has done 175 hours of therapy and has truly looked at all his mistakes and had turned around to be for the better. When you meet someone in that space, you are going to be in like company."

News of Williams' filing comes amid rumors that Guobadia was reportedly denied permanent residency in the United States due to a criminal record and is currently appealing the decision.

However, a source told People the divorce is "unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon's past," and that the cause their split is an "ongoing matter."

The filing also follows the reality star's announcement that she has signed on to return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for season 16.

Williams -- who is mom to 4-year-old daughter Pilar from a previous relationship -- first joined RHOA back in its fifth season. After leaving the show in season 13, she and Guobadia appeared together on Porsha's Family Matters in 2021. She also starred in the third season of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, which aired last year.

Earlier this month, Bravo shared that not only will Williams rejoin the cast of RHOA, but she also signed a comprehensive scripted talent deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment. According to the agreement, Williams will exclusively collaborate with NBCUniversal Entertainment for scripted projects spanning the company's broadcast and streaming platforms.

Williams posted a video to Instagram to share her excitement for returning to RHOA. "I'm incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family," the TV personality says in the video. "I'm looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!"

Previously, ET learned the RHOA cast is going to look very different in the upcoming season.

"A major shakeup is coming to The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Before the women filmed their recent reunion, they were told that they should expect a big change with the franchise moving forward," a source told ET.

"They hinted at a reboot like New York got, but it also could be moving forward with only a couple of the current stars. The cast is on edge about their future and has no idea where the network plans to go," the source added. "Although their ratings are still strong, the network is listening to fans and their desire for a change."

Bravo doesn't comment on casting, and a source previously told ET that no casting decisions have been made yet for season 16.
