Serena Williams won’t be going down under. The 36-year-old tennis pro took to Snapchat on Thursday to share that she has opted out of the Australian open.
“After performing my first match after giving birth, I realized that although I am super close I’m not where I personally want to be,” she wrote.
In 2017, Williams famously won her seventh Australian Open while pregnant with her daughter Alexis Olympia.
“The memory of last year’s Open is one that I will carry with me and Olympia and I look forward to coming back again,” she added. “I appreciate the support and understanding of my fans and everyone at the Australian Open.
She’s not the only tennis pro to miss this year’s match. British star Andy Murray is also opting out of this year’s Australian Open after suffering from an ongoing hip injury.
Williams’ first match back after giving birth took place in December. She lost 10 to 5 to Jelena Ostapenko. For more from the match, watch the clip below!
