Kristoff St. John is getting a proper send-off on The Young and the Restless after portraying Neil Winters on the soap opera since 1991.
The 52-year-old actor was still a star on the long-running CBS daytime drama when he was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 3.
On Tuesday, the cast started to say goodbye to St. John's character. The Young and the Restless episode began with Neil's son, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), coming down the stairs crying, presumably because he's learned that his father has died.
Later on in the episode, Devon reveals the news to his sister, Lili Winters (played by Christel Khalil), but viewers are unable to hear their conversation in the scene. Eventually, more characters are made aware of the tragedy and they start to hug as somber music plays during the scene.
All next week, The Young and the Restless will be paying tribute to St. John by saying goodbye to his character. Former stars of the show, Shemar Moore, Victoria Rowell and Mishael Morgan, are also expected to return.
St. John starred on the series as Neil Winters for over a quarter of a century, during which time he was nominated for nine Daytime Emmy Awards, winning two.
After news of his death, The Young and the Restless team released a statement mourning the actor's passing.
"The news of Kristoff St. John’s passing is heartbreaking. He was a very talented actor and an even better person," the statement began. "For those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him on The Young and the Restless for the last 27 years, he was a beloved friend whose smile and infectious laugh made every day on set a joy and made audiences love him. On behalf of the Y&R cast and crew, CBS and Sony Pictures Television, we offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family and loved ones."
