Taylor Armstrong to Detail Abuse in New Book

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong is penning a memoir entitled Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss, and Finding the Courage Within, which will discuss her relationship with Russell Armstrong, and she tells ET exclusively about the cathartic experience.

"This has been cathartic for me. I hope my book gives readers a better understanding of my life and struggle, behind the scenes of all the Beverly Hills glamour, and will help women, and men, too, suffering in their own abusive relationships," Taylor tells ET.

The book, to be published by Simon & Schuster, will delve into her abusive relationship with late husband Russell and her mission to come to the aid of others who are victims of domestic violence. The current season of Housewives has touched on the Armstrongs' marital issues, even going so far as the ladies staging an intervention of sorts for Taylor in a recent episode.

Taylor told ET of writing the book, "I’ve been writing the book day and night to have it out quickly ... as I want women, and men, to read it and help save and improve lives from domestic violence. I know what I’m talking about, from the violence of my own life."

She explained, "I think the tragedy has allowed to me to write even more effectively because now that the person that I struggled with in an unhealthy relationship is completely out of my life. I'm able to be very objective about how unhealthy our relationship was and what we each brought into the relationship and I feel like that distance, although it's been incredibly painful, has also given me new insight into our situation."

Russell committed suicide this past August just one month after Taylor filed for divorce. After his suicide, Taylor described the abuse that she suffered during their marriage in an interview with ET.

The book is set to hit bookstore shelves on February 7, 2012.
