'Grey's Anatomy': Jackson Meets His Father and Reunites With April -- Are They Back Together?

ABC

This may be the beginning of a rekindled romance.

Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven't watched Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Grey's Anatomy
reunited a father and son, while also opening the door to a rekindled romance.

On Thursday's episode, titled "Who Is He (and What Is He to You)?," Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) met his estranged father (played by Eric Roberts) for the first time while in Montana to perform a complex throat transplant with his ex-wife, April Kepner (Sarah Drew), by his side.

But that wasn't only surprise of the hour.

After Jackson successfully completed the surgery (following a few detours), the spark seemed to be back between him and April -- and the former couple not only shared a passionate kiss, but also hit the sheets!

The next morning, Jackson and April reflected on their rocky past and why Jackson's mother, Catherine (Debbie Allen), specifically asked April to accompany him on the medical trip.

"I knew why my mother sent you, allowing me to have some backup. She must have thought I was probably going to see [my father] and knew better than to talk me out of it," Jackson said after their night of romancing. Does this mean they're back together? Unclear at the moment.

Moments later, April gave Jackson the sweetest boost of confidence, praising him for always being there as a father -- unlike his own.

"Jackson, I know what a good father is. I've had one my whole life. You were a good father. You took us both in. You took care of [Harriet] when I couldn't and you haven't stopped taking care of either of us since," she lovingly said. "Even with everything that's happened between us, you never bailed and [your father] couldn't do that. You came here to tell him something. Don't leave till you do."

Jackson followed April's advice, arriving at the local Montana bar his ex-surgeon father, Robert, was now working in -- not to seek out a relationship, but rather to end one.

"I just came to say goodbye," Jackson said, before Robert picked up the conversation like nothing was amiss: "I'm really glad you came by. Maybe next time..."

"Yeah, I don't think there's going to be a next time," Jackson replied, revealing to his birth father that he had a daughter.

"I'm a grandfather...," Robert said, in awe of the news.

"No, no you're not. My mom's a wonderful grandmother and you seem like a decent guy, but you're not a grandfather. You're not my father," Jackson said, shutting down any semblance of a father-son relationship. "I figure when you're having a kid, you're making a promise, and I don't like to break promises. That's the real difference between you and me. Take care, Robert. I'm really glad I met you. Goodbye."

And that was that.

Ahead of Thursday's installment, which was directed by Kevin McKidd, Williams posted an adorable note on Twitter about their big #JaprilTheSequel episode.

"100% team effort," Williams wrote, giving love to his frequent scene partner, Drew. "Couldn't ask for a more talented, generous and committed co-captain."

"I love these folks a lot!" Drew wrote after the episode, alongside a behind-the-scenes candid snap with McKidd, Williams and Allen. "It was such a joy making this episode together!"
