Kristin Cavallari Says She Cut Her Dad Dennis Out of Her Life After He 'Crossed a Line' With Her Kids

'The Hills' alum calls her father a 'narcissist' during a podcast discussion.

Kristin Cavallari is keeping it real when it comes to discussing her fraught relationship with her father, Dennis Cavallari. The 36-year-old former reality star spoke about past trauma on her Let's Be Honest podcast during a discussion with Dr. Sherrie Campbell.

"I've had two major narcissistic relationships in my life, the romantic one I was in and then my dad," Cavallari said during the episode. "I just finally stopped talking in both of those relationships. There was no point. You go around and around and they never see your side because there's no empathy."

Cavallari shares sons Camden, 11, Jaxon, 9, and daughter Saylor, 8, with her ex-husband, Jay Cutler. The former couple announced their split in 2020 after a decade together.

During the podcast, she revealed that in recent years she has cut her dad out of her life.

"I cut my dad out of my life about two years ago, which has honestly been the best thing I've ever done, really, truly it has," she shared. "It changes when you have kids. I was always like, 'I can take it. I can take the abuse. I have my whole life.' But when you start messing with my kids, I'm not doing it."

The Hills alum said that the tipping point for her came when her father "crossed a line" with her kids.

"For years, I was like, 'I don't want to talk. I don't want to be around it,' but I felt so guilty about it," she admitted. "And then something happened with my kids and it crossed a line. And I was like, 'You know what, I'm done.' And he blamed me for it, threw everything back in my face. And I was like, 'What am I doing? Life's too short.'"

Cavallari moved to Laguna Beach, California, as a teenager to live with her father, leaving her mother, Judith Eifrig, behind in Illinois. Dennis made brief appearances on MTV's Laguna Beach, the first reality series that Cavallari starred in.

Back in 2021, Cavallari spoke with ET about what she's looking for in a partner after her split from Cutler and how she's avoiding narcissistic relationships.

"I need someone who's just really stable, which is really funny because I never thought I'd be in a place where I have to say that I need someone stable. But these are the times we are living in," she quipped. "It's the truth, yes, like that's actually really hard to find someone who's not a crazy narcissist."
