Mandy Moore Recalls Being Told She Had a 'Slim Chance' of Getting Pregnant

The actress is the mother of sons Gus and Ozzie.

Mandy Moore is reflecting on her motherhood journey!

In a candid post shared on Instagram Tuesday, the This Is Us alum revealed she was once told that pregnancy may not happen for her.

"I’ve always wanted to be a mom. Before bringing my two boys into the world with my love, @taylordawesgoldsmith, I was a mom to many many cats and at times, just as many dogs (and admittedly today, I still am) 🙃. But there was a time when I thought I might not be able to have kids. I remember when the doctor told me there was a slim chance of getting pregnant… and then lo and behold to our surprise, I became pregnant with Gus.💗," the 39-year-old actress shared next to a picture of herself as a child.

In the post, that was also shared on the This Was Us Instagram account, Moore shared how her role as family matriarch Rebecca Pearson, prepared her for her journey.

"Motherhood is a beautiful, messy, sleepless gift and to have two kiddos under two…whew!!!😮‍💨," she wrote. "Playing Rebecca on #ThisIsUs actually prepared me for it a bit — like changing a diaper for the first time and running around set with “triplets”. Being a mom on This Is Us to triplets at various stages of life and now being a mom to Gus and Ozzie, well, I’ve learned that as hard as you try and as good intentioned as you may be, it is impossible to “get it right” all of the time."

Moore ended her message with one of her character's pivotal quotes.

"Rebecca Pearson said it best: 'It’s my job to keep standing there with my arms wide open, waiting for you to maybe someday fall inside if you needed it. And if you do, I’ll love you," she wrote. "And if you don’t I’ll love you too — because that’s what it means to be a parent. You’ll see one day.” And to that I say, Rebecca, I see it! #ThisIsUs and #ThatWasUs @thatwasus."

Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, share August "Gus," 2, and Oscar "Ozzie," 1.

In 2021, the Dr. Death actress spoke more about her fertility journey and why she was nervous about sharing her surprise pregnancy news.

In an interview with Romper -- where she appeared with her baby bump -- Moore shared that she got the news of her pregnancy with Gus, while she was prepping for surgery to fix an issue with her uterus.

"Because of this issue with my uterus, I was very hesitant to believe it and put any stock in it," she said at the time. "I sort of was holding my breath until 12 weeks."

Gus and Ozzie are certainly keeping the mother-of-two on her toes.

In December, Moore shared a hilarious post from her time at Disneyland with her kids, and revealed that her oldest son isn't impressed by the fact that she is a Disney star.

"Gus isn’t interested in Tangled and really couldn't care less that mom and Rapunzel are 'close friends,'" the actress, who played Rupunzel in Tangled, shared. "Now if I knew Lightning McQueen, that would be another story 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for having us @disneyparks- you are always magic but seeing the world through Gus's eyes is a whole new ballgame."
