‘Southern Charm’s Leva and Danni on the Show’s Attempt to Tackle Racism (Exclusive)

Leva Bonaparte and Danni Baird open up to ET about bringing the harsh truths of history to TV on ‘Southern Charm.’ On the latest episode, Leva, Danni and their friends Madison Simon, Venita Aspen and Megan Pinckney attended a meeting calling for the removal of a statue of John C. Calhoun in the center of their home city, Charleston, South Carolina. The call to remove the figure came out of the Black Lives Matter movement. Calhoun was a proud enslaver; he’s also an ancestor of Danni and Leva’s ‘Southern Charm’ co-star Kathryn Dennis, who opted not to involve herself in the discussion around the statue. Leva and Danni open up about Kathryn’s indifference to the movement, as well as her headline-making DMs with an activist on Instagram, which many deemed to be racist. ‘Southern Charm’ airs Thursdays on Bravo.
