In The Place Beyond the Pines, Gosling plays Luke, a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer who chooses to give up his life on the road after he learns that his former lover Romina (Mendes) had their child in his absence. Cooper plays Avery, a cop who bumps up against corruption in the ranks. When Luke chooses crime to pay the bills, both characters are heading for a violent collision.
