Joey Feek Laid to Rest Following Private Funeral in Tennessee

The country star was buried at her family's farm on Tuesday.

Joey Feek was laid to rest in Tennessee on Tuesday, her rep told ET.

The country singer, one half of the popular duo Joey + Rory.  died on March 4, after a long battle with terminal cancer, in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. She was 40.

“Joey was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of her passing,” said her family in a statement. “Joey had been fighting Stage IV cancer for nine months, surrounded by the love and support of countless family members, friends, loved ones, longtime followers of her music and even strangers who were inspired by her life.”

Joey’s husband and musical partner, Rory Feek, documented his wife’s final months on his blog, thislifeilive.com, and on Saturday, returned home with the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Indiana, to bury Joey at their family farm in Pottsville, Tennessee.

“Joey was known for her beautiful voice, beautiful smile and beautiful marriage partnership with Rory Feek,” the family’s statement continued. “While grateful for numerous accolades and countless career dreams that came true, Joey found the real meaning and joys of life to be one of love for her God, love for her home and family, love for planting and growing and love for sharing with everyone she knew. Her roles as wife and mother are often heralded beyond her celebrity successes.”

On Sunday, Rory shared a picture of the farm as he began “making plans that I hoped we would never have to make.”

The family held a private funeral service. Joey is survived by Rory, Indiana, her stepdaughters Heidi and Hopie, her mother, father, and three sisters.
