Sweet Christmas! This Trailer for 'Marvel's Luke Cage' Proves Just How Bulletproof Power Man Is!

Netflix

Mike Colter and Alfre Woodard star in Netflix's latest offering, which is packed with action and romance.

Forget "Sweet Christmas." This trailer for Marvel's Luke Cage deserves a "Sweet Christmas," Hanukkah, Easter, Thanksgiving and Arbor Day.

Mike Colter, who plays the titular superhero, previously teased the third offering in Netflix's Defenders series -- following Daredevil and Jessica Jones -- would have "for the fan boys, plenty of action. A bit of romance. But it's a drama first and foremost." That all checks out, though "plenty" of action might have been an understatement.

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel's Head of TV Reveals How 'The Defenders' Will Be Different From 'The Avengers'

Beyond proving just how bulletproof Luke Cage is, the trailer provides a first look at fan favorite Misty Knight (Simone Missick), sans her iconic bionic arm, and baddies Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) and Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (Mahershala Ali). There's also Harlem, which -- forgive us for saying this --really seems like another character.

Here's the official description for the season, courtesy of Netflix:

"After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city -- forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury."

"In many ways, it's the making of a hero," Marvel's Head of TV, Jeph Loeb, revealed during a sit-down at Comic-Con. "The idea is that, 'Why would anyone do this job?' At this point in his life, you can't get paid. No one really appreciates it for what it is. And most importantly, he's a fugitive. So, for us, it is a story of redemption. It is the story of the hero's journey."

Marvel's Luke Cage
premieres on Netflix on Sept. 30.

Until then, Power Man himself, Mike Colter, promised ET a satisfying origin story for his hero and teased that fans will find out why it was such a "difficult" shoot. Get the scoop in the video below.
