The Thor actor -- who was named the men's magazine's most Manliest Man In Hollywood -- recalls his own wild times as an Australian soap star, before he goes into his sibling's behavior. "The fame, the parties, the women -- I did that stuff back home," he tells GQ. "I got away with a lot more over there. Then I came here -- and sort of started over."

As for his 24-year-old brother Liam, he started making headlines when he began dating and later got engaged to Miley Cyrus. They broke things off in Sept. 2013 after three years together.

"I've watched Liam do things I did at his age, like being in relationships he shouldn't be in, or being reckless just to prove a point," Chris says of The Hunger Games star. "And I had no empathy. My mom had to remind me I was the same way."

The 31-year-old actor says his older brother Luke had to set him straight when was in his 20s. "Back when I was still on the soap, I became incredibly insecure and full of anxiety because I didn't know if I was any good. I spent years being angsty, constantly telling people I wasn't just part of a soap opera, that I was a real artist," he says. "And I remember Luke sort of snapping, telling me to shut up, that he was sick of hearing it."

Chris got his act together and settled down with his wife, 36-year-old actress Elsa Pataky, and the couple now have three kids, India, Sasha and Tristan.

He credits Luke and being on the 2006 Aussie version of Dancing with the Stars for helping him never to pull the "serious, self-important card again."

Now, he says that it's his friend Matt Damon that he looks to as an example of staying grounded in this industry. "We became friends around the time I started to work, and I've really benefited from watching how he handles himself," he tells the magazine of the A-list actor. "Matt's just a normal guy who has the movie-star thing figured out."

In addition to being GQ's Manliest Man In Hollywood (issue hits newsstands Dec. 26), Chris was also named People magazine's 2014 Sexiest Man Alive. See the star's hottest moments in ET's video, below.
