Judges were reportedly impressed with Royo's public speaking skills, as reported by USA Today.

Shortly after being crowned, Royo took to Instagram to show her appreciation for the win. "The start of a new [journey]... I'm so proud to be the new Miss World 2015, I can't wait for this amazing year," she wrote on Saturday.

Russia's Sofia Nikitchuk came in second in the pageant, while Miss Indonesia, Maria Harfanti, took third. Victoria Mendoza, the Arizona model representing the United States, failed to make the top 20.

This year's pageant saw some controversy, as China would not allow Canada's contestant, Anastasia Lin, to attend the event. The country refused her visa, and she was therefore unable to board her connecting flight from Hong Kong to Sanya.

Lin was born in China and has been outspoken against the country's religious policies.
