Emma Stone may have won a Golden Globe for her performance in La La Land, but she wasn't the first choice to star opposite Ryan Gosling, at least according to Ellen DeGeneres.

During The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, the talk show host shared some "exclusive, behind-the-scenes" footage from the modern musical, featuring Gosling with another leading lady.

While DeGeneres looked pretty comfortable in Gosling's arms, the 36-year-old actor told ET that it was his real co-star, Emma Stone, who carried him through the film.

"Emma had this in the bag, 'cause she'd just come off Cabaret, so I knew she'd be carrying me," Gosling gushed following the pair's Golden Globe wins last weekend.

"That's not true," Stone quickly interjected. "It's not -- you know it's not!"
