Zooey Deschanel Dishes on 'New Girl' Final Season and If She'll Ever Work With Sister Emily (Exclusive)

The 37-year-old actress revealed to ET what it would take for the TV star siblings to collaborate together.

Zooey Deschanel is pretty pleased with how she and her New Girl co-stars are bidding adieu to the beloved series.

The 37-year-old actress spoke with ET's Leanne Aguilera at the 2018 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California, on Thursday, and she spilled some details about the final season of the Fox show as well as being a new mother of two and the possibility of collaborating with her sister, Emily Deschanel.

"I wanted to do a season knowing we were ending at the end," she said of New Girl coming to a close after season seven. "It would have been OK if it was season six, [but] I would have wanted to know at the beginning of season six, so that we could properly say goodbye."

Zooey added, "I'm really happy we had a final season and we knew it while we were shooting it."

The leading lady also wants longtime fans of the show to know that the season will be an homage to some of the beloved episodes. "I feel like we covered a lot of our classic sort of scenarios in the last season," she noted. "The writers did a good job. There are a lot of Easter eggs."

As for her home life, Zooey and husband Jacob Pechenik recently welcomed their second child, son Charlie, in May. "He's so cute I can't handle how cute he is, he's the sweetest little guy," she gushed over her baby boy. "He smiles all the time. If he were here, he'd just be smiling at you. He likes pretty ladies."

Zooey mused that Charlie really loves his big sister, 2-year-old Elsie, but "she likes him less than he likes her."

In addition to New Girl ending, Zooey's sister Emily's show, Bones, also wrapped up, leading fans of the Deschanel siblings wondering if they'll finally work together.

"I would love it, it would be so fun," Zooey exclaimed. "She would kill me, but I wouldn't kill her."

The final season of New Girl premieres April 10 on Fox.
