'Dancing With the Stars' Week 2: Biggest Dances, Best Scores and the Season's 1st Elimination

Follow along with ET as we break down all the biggest moments from Monday's exciting new episode including the first elimination!

Dancing With the Stars returns Monday night for the second week of Season 30! With a cast of excited celebs ready to dance their hearts out, ET is following along throughout the two-hour spectacular to break down all the best dances and the most surprising moments.

As the contestants duke it out on the dance floor, judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough will give feedback and dole out their scores -- all before the first elimination of the season.

Ahead of Monday's show, there was a bit of a cast shakeup when pro Cheryl Burke revealed that she'd tested positive for COVID-19. Her star partner, Cody Rigsby, announced he'd still be dancing in the show with a new partner, and fans will have to wait and see who he's teamed up with for his performance.

The battle for the mirrorball trophy continues on Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and ET is covering all the highlights in real time.

Who's Safe and Who's Going Home?

It's time for the first elimination of the season -- which is always a challenge.

Tyra quickly reads off all the couples who are safe from elimination -- and the only two pairs left are Martin Kove & Britt Stewart as well as Christine Chiu & Pasha Pashkov.

Technically, it goes to the judges to vote on the final two, and unsurprisingly the judges vote to save the higher-scoring couple -- Christine & Pasha.

Martin says the experience of being on DWTS has been "beyond belief."

Suni Lee and Sasha Farber Give Likable Cha-Cha

Suni Lee is in this to win it, and with Sasha Farber, she really has a chance.

Together -- in the final dance of the night -- the pair delivered a fun Cha-cha set to "I Like It"—Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin.

The judges have a variety of different suggestions, with Derek saying she needs to project her positivity, while Carrie Ann says she's embracing her real self.

Ultimately, whatever she's doing, it's working. The pair earn four 7s across the board for a total of 28 out of 40

Mel C and Gleb Savchenko Dance a Sunny Foxtrot

For their second dance of the season Spice Girls star Mel C and Gleb Savchenko pull out all the stops for a Foxtrot set to "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles.

It's a sweet, romantic and life-affirming routine that gets them a lot of love.

"Melanie, you are a gorgeous dancer," Derek marvels. "So clean, so effortless."

Bruno says Mel C has never looked more lovely, while Carrie Ann says she loves "seeing this side of you."

Len, meanwhile, showers them with references to other Beatles songs.

All the feedback pales in comparison to a surprise pre-recorded message from Ringo Starr, who tells her, "I just wanted to say best of luck tonight... I send you peace and love and all the best!"

She's overwhelmed with the message, and then they are rewarded with two 7s and two 8s for total of 30 out of 40.

Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Deal With COVID-19 Development

With Cheryl Burke testing positive for COVID-19, the show has to figure out how to proceed.

The issue is both Burke needing to quarantine, and Cody needing to be distanced because he was in close contact with her.

Since they can't dance live, and Cody can't be in the studio, they are playing footage from rehearsal which was taped last week in the rehearsal studio -- giving it a real different vibe. They danced a Salsa set to "Don't Go Yet" by Camila Cabello.

"It was crafted well and it was danced well," Len tells Cody and Cheryl, who joined the show virtually.

"We really miss you in the ballroom," Bruno says, before telling Cody he could have rounded his hips more.

"Lots of content but not fantastic," Carrie Ann says, before adding that she understands that's mostly the nature of rehearsal footage.

Cheryl says she's "feeling OK" and that she's "just grateful that she got vaccinated" and she hopes to be back in the ballroom soon.

"I'm feeling good," Cody shares. "The world throws you things and you just have to ride the wave, and that's what we did."

The pair get four 6s across the board for a still-respectable 24 out of 40.

Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev Get Colorful

Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev are a pretty great couple in this competition, and tonight they are dancing a Rumba set to "All by Myself" by Celine Dion -- a choice inspired by Melora's daughter leaving home to go to college.

They deliver a beautiful, stunning routine basked in color and light that proves to be a real, pleasant delight.

"What I loved about that performance is that it was so well balanced," Carrie Ann shares.

Len says it was "easy like Sunday morning," but needed more content.

"You are so fun to watch and so easy to watch," Derek shares, before both he and Bruno call the number "beautiful."

They walk away with three 7s and another 6 from Len for a total of 27 out of 40.

Martin Kove and Britt Stewart 'Twist' and Shout, Sort Of

Sometimes, on DWTS, they cast people who... aren't exactly good at dancing, or even moving really.

For Martin Kove, there's not much to his cha-cha set to "Twist and Shout" but Britt Stewart certainly put her all into it.

The feedback is... about what you'd expect -- although it's technically better than last week when Kove spent the majority of his time just yelling while standing still.

He earns three 4s and a 3 from Len for a total of 15 out of 30 -- which is technically a 2-point improvement, so that's something.

Iman Shumpert and Daniella Karagach Rumba With Passion

Iman Shumpert is looking to regain ground after his premiere performance, which earned wildly varying feedback from the judges.

This week, the NBA star and pro Daniella Karagach hit the stage to perform a Rumba set to "U Know What's Up" by Donell Jones, and it's filled with passion, connection and determination.

"What I love about you is you look like you're enjoying this, and that makes me enjoy it," Derek shares.

Bruno praises Iman for doing more and trying to press himself to go further.

Len, who disliked his work last week, says he "liked it" and that it's "a great improvement on last week."

Carrie Ann, however, is effusive in her praise. She gives them a 7, while the others award 6s for a total of 25 out of 40 -- a full 4-point improvement over last week!

JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson Rain Down on the Competition

JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson continue to impress!

Tonight, the pair hit the dance floor for a cha-cha set to "Rain on Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and they bring the energy and excitement that JoJo is known for.

After the dance, the judges love the number, but Derek cautions them that, given JoJo's extensive dance background, they aren't going to cut them as much slack as some of the other contestants.

Len praises the number as his favorite Latin dance of the season thus far. "Full of vitality and zest," and he added that the dance was "absolutely brilliant."

"You are awesome and you guys are so good together," Carrie Ann marvels.

In the end, the pair earn three 8s, as well as a 7 from Derek, for a total of 31 out of 40.

Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten Get Go Retro for Fun Foxtrot

Amanda Kloots dances tonight to a particularly meaningful song, "It Had to Be You," which happened to be her wedding song from when she exchaged vows with late husband Nick Cordero.

While the song has an emotional background for her, her performance with Alan Bersten is nothing but pure joy, and is a highlight of the night thus far.

"So much of your journey has had to do with Nick, but this was all about you," Carrie Ann shares.

"I love that track, so that helps," Len says. "I liked it so much, I wanted it to go on a bit longer. It was so smooth, it was like butter on a hot muffin."

Derek says he doesn't know what to say, calling the dance "so enjoyable to watch," and Bruno calls Amanda "absolutely radiant."

The pair earn the highest score of the night so far with four 8s for a total of 32 out of 40.

Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater Get Emotional Before Touching Rumba

Jimmie Allen is winning over hearts this week, emotionally reflecting on his childhood and praising his mother's strength, and how it impacted his life.

The pre-taped package has a lot of tears and he hits the dance floor with Emma Slater for a Rumba set to Jimmie's tune "Make Me Want To."

"How you used your arms and your line, well done!" Bruno shares.

"That was amazing," Carrie Ann says. "I could not take my eyes off of you. You have so much respect for the art form with the way you did every movement."

"Your upper body was really great, and the secret to this show is to do better than you did the week before, and you did," Len praises, and Derek adds that it was "beautiful."

The pair earn three 7s and then a 6 from Len for a total of 27 out of 40.

Christine Chiu & Pasha Pashkov Heat Things Up With a Salsa.

For Bling Empire star Christine Chiu, getting to be on DWTS is something of a dream -- and she's bringing that excitement with her to the stage.

As she and partner Pasha deliver a fun, high-energy salsa set to "Despacito," she shows off all her charm and magnetic charisma, but at the cost of her consistency. But the judges are fairly impressed nonetheless.

"Really, really great job," Derek shares.

Bruno says the dance "really got me," but warned that she needs to be "consistent."

"Your passion is amazing and it brings us all in," Carrie Ann says.

Len's praise is measured, telling Christine that he doesn't think she'll be going home tonight.

The pair get four 6s for a total of 24 out of 40.

Brian Austin Green and Sharna Burgess Bring Date Night to the Dance Floor

For their number tonight, the pair took inspiration from a beautiful date they went on to the interactive Van Gogh exhibit in Los Angeles.

The couple hit the dance floor surrounded by projected representations of Van Gogh's famous works and deliver and emotional and heartfelt Rumba set to "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur.

It's a sweet, romantic number that ends in a heartfelt embrace and broad smiles.

"On a positive note, it had a bit of romance about it. Apart from that, there was very little I liked," Len shares.

Derek says, "Sometimes you do a dance on the show that's just for you."

Bruno calls it an "honest dance," but is closer to a contemporary dance than a Rumba. Carrie Ann says they need to "build on the chemistry" they have.

The pair get three 6s and 5 from Len (shocking!) for a total of 23 out of 40.

The Miz and Witney Carson Have a Good Time

The Miz is trying his best to be a good student -- and it's paying off.

The WWE pro and his partner, Witney, hit the stage for a Tango set to "Nothin' but a Good Time" by Poison, and the title pretty perfectly summed up their pyrotechnic-backed performance.

"That's what I'm talking about! That was amazing, you were so distinguished!" Carrie Ann marvels.

Len says the dance had "plenty of attack and very little finesse."

Bruno and Derek, however, are far more impressed, and praise the "aggression and bravo" and Bruno calls their dance a "power tango."

The pair end up with three 7s and a 5 from Len (What!?) for a total of 26 out of 40.

Kenya Moore and Brandon Armstrong 'Hot' Cha-cha

Kenya Moore dishes on her divorce during the pre-taped package ahead of the number, and explains how it makes the song they're dancing too -- "Hot Stuff" by Kygo & Donna Summer -- all the more personal.

Sure, it's a fun, funky tune, but Kenya and Brandon are still able to dish out a fun, wild cha-cha that showed off her charisma flawlessly.

Bruno says that, despite some missteps, she's "irresistible," and Carrie Ann praises her for showing what a 50-year-old woman is capable of.

Len says she's got "plenty of gear in the rear," and praises her ability to use her hips.

The pair end up earning four 6s across the board for a total of 24 out of 40.

Olivia Jade and Val Deliver a Gorgeous Waltz.

Olivia Jade uses her make-up skills on Val in the pre-taped package, but it really doesn't shed much light on their rehearsals.

That being said, they must have spent quite a bit of time rehearsing considering how elegant they are when they hit the stage for their Viennese waltz set to "Better Days" by Ant Clemons and Justin Timberlake.

"There is a purity to your performance," Derek shares. "I'm really impressed with your performance."

Bruno says that, "For a beginner," she really did a "great job."

The pleasant praise is echoed by Carrie Ann and Len, who express that they "did a good job."

The end up earning three 7s and then one 6 from Len for a total of 27 out of 40.

Matt James & Lindsay Arnold Are Levitating Over the Competition

Matt knows how to make reality TV work for him -- and tonight it's by getting shirtless almost instantly.

Matt and Lindsay hit the stage for a samba set to Dua Lipa's "Levitating" and it was a fun, shiny number that gets a loud round of applause.

That being said, Len isn't impressed, calling the shirt removal "unnecessary" and then saying he should have just worked on his hip movement.

Carrie Ann calls it "a little awkward" and says he needs to keep up his bravado and charm.

The reviews seem mixed and the scores reflect with that two 5s from Carrie Ann and Len and two 6s from Bruno and Derek, for a total of 22 out of 40.

Here We Go!

Week two, and things are already getting a little chaotic!

Tonight we've got the first elimination -- and there's really only a few people who are in the running to be out of the running -- and we've also got the first pro out, what with Cheryl Burke dealing with COVID-19.

Tyra is rocking a bright red ensemble and says things want to heat it up. Let's see how hot tonight can get!

Check out the video to hear more about some of the big surprises from this upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars!
