Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Hits New York City: Al Roker, Busy Philipps, Melissa Gorga and More Celebrities React

An estimated 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked the Northeast Friday morning and the stars are reacting.

An earthquake shook the New York tri-state area, and the stars are sharing their thoughts on social media!

Per CBS News, an estimated 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook buildings from Philadelphia to New Jersey to New York City to Connecticut to Westchester, New York, Friday morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, 40 miles west of New York City.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the quake was felt throughout New York.

"My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day," she wrote on social media.

A number of celebrities immediately took to social media to react to the news -- even the Empire State Building reacted!

"I AM FINE," a post shared on the New York landmark's X (formerly Twitter) page reads. 

The Today show's Al Roker shared a video on his Instagram page detailing his experience feeling the earthquake while working. "I've never felt anything like that before!" he exclaims in the video.

"Wow!!!!! Earthquake. As far north as Oswego, NY and as far South as Souther NJ," he captioned the video.

Roker's wife, Deborah Roberts, shared her experience in a video on her Instagram page as well. The ABC News 20/20 co-anchor shared that it was her "first quake," which she initially thought was shaking from the subway.

"So, I guess we had an earthquake in NYC. 4.8. Wow! Folks in NJ say pictures on the wall cracked. My first quake. Fortunately, everyone and everything here seems ok. #freaky #friday," she captioned the video post.

CBS News anchor Anne-Marie Green shared a video of her and co-anchor Vladimir Duthiers, writing, "So apparently it was an earthquake? All I know is @vladduthiersCBS and I were sitting at the anchor desk and suddenly it felt like a subway train was passing through the studio. Did you feel anything? #earthquake"

"Not to be weird but was there just an earthquake in New York?" actress Busy Philipps asked on X. 

She later added, "like guys. i think there was an earthquake in NYC."

One Tree Hill alum Hilarie Burton responded, "Felt it all the way to the Hudson Valley. And my girlfriend in Connecticut felt it too."

Snow White star Rachel Zegler had a humorous take on the situation, writing that the Earth was "just listening to Cowboy Carter……. Shaking some a**…….. quaking fr."

Former Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel posted an Instagram Story saying she felt "the earth move under my feet."

Bravo producer and host Andy Cohen shared that he hadn't felt the earthquake while working out in the gym.

Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga shared a video of the inside of her home during the earthquake on her Instagram page.

"EARTHQUAKE in NJ! Omg!! I just went running up my stairs from the basement/working out while calling 911 because it sounded like a stampede was going on upstairs," she captioned the post. "And then I got a notification on my phone that my front door was open! I was freaking out! That was a first! #njearthquake."

"Totally just had an #earthquake in New York. Did you feel it?" Don Lemon asked on X.

Drita D'Avanzo said her "whole house was shaking" in a video shared to her X account.

"I just went outside to see if 5,000 orangutans and gorillas were having a party on my f**king roof. These fake eyelashes were trembling," she added.
