Let's Cast the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Reboot!

Mandalay Entertainment

Who is the new Jennifer Love Hewitt? Who is her Freddie Prinze Jr.?

We'll always know what you did last summer*. Because Sony won’t let us forget.

Deadline
recently reported that the studio is rebooting I Know What You Did Last Summer, the 1997 slasher film about a group of college kids (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe) who cover up their hit-and-run, only to be stalked and slayed by the very person they thought they killed.

Now our ultimate dream cast for this reboot is present day J.Love, SMG, Freddie Prinze, and Ryan P. playing the same roles they did two decades ago (most are available), but since that definitely won’t happen, we brainstormed a few suggestions:

NEWS: Find out which Schwarzenegger movie is also getting a reboot!

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James

If Ariana Grande played the part we could finally see her without that ponytail (and with some sassy fringe bangs!) Could you even imagine Ariana running around town trying not to get gutted by a hook? Bonkers. Lily Collins also needs something splashy after Mirror Mirror tanked, and she’s basically a JLH doppelgänger. Or Taissa Farmiga, who has more than proven she can do the scream queen thing on two seasons of American Horror Story.

Other Suggestions: Victoria Justice, Reign’s Adelaide Kane, is Selena Gomez too obvious?

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Helen Shivers

Cara Delevigne
is trying to do the whole acting thing, so what better way to dive in than playing a beauty queen in a horror movie? It’s not that big of a stretch and doesn’t require that great of acting. Ashley Benson is due for another turn as the bitchy blonde babe after Spring Breakers. This could un-pigeonhole AnnaSophia Robb from those good girl, Carrie Bradshaw parts.

Other Suggestions: Nicola Peltz from the newest Transformers, fellow AHS alumn Emma Roberts, Teen Wolf’s Holland Roden; wouldn’t it be hilarious to see Taylor Swift jump out of a window to escape a raincoat-wearing serial killer?

Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson

Dylan O’Brien
from Teen Wolf has that mix of charming and edge that’s needed for the role of Love Hewitt’s occasionally suspicious boyfriend. Though now that he’s a franchise movie star (with Maze Runner), he might be too big for this. If they want to go more hunky, Gregg Sulkin has the hair and jaw line to do the part justice. We thought it would be funny to pick Harry Styles (why not?!) but Nick Jonas is better suited — and, as far as pop stars go, a little more realistic.

Other Suggestions: Darren Criss post-Glee, Rock of Ages’ Diego Boneta, Teen Wolf costar Daniel Sherman

Ryan Phillippe as Barry William Cox

SMG’s bad boy boyfriend could be played by Carrie Diaries bad boy and Vanessa Hudgen’s real-life boyfriend, Austin Butler. He has the hair for it. Jamie Campbell Bower has two franchises under his belt (Twilight and The Mortal Instruments), so could fill the heartthrob quota. Or Evan Peters, proving that they could absolutely cast this movie using only the cast of American Horror Story.

Other Suggestions: Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen, Douglas Booth, uhhh, Justin Bieber? He died well on CSI.

Or maybe none of these suggestions and they’ll cast complete unknowns! Or decide to mix things up and not have the entire cast be white kids! Either way, if the reboot does well, we can’t wait to fan cast Brandy in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

(*Did you all know there was actually a 2006 direct-to-video sequel called I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, nine years after the original came out? Yeah, neither did we.)

Meanwhile, J.Love's Party of Five just turned 20!
