In the first scene from the season six premiere, which returns Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, Washington's burgeoning belly was perfectly hidden by a flower pot.

"Flower pots for everyone!" she joked to ET's Leanne Aguilera. "Hide everyone's belly."

Washington's co-star, Bellamy Young, chimed in, telling ET, "Now the rest of us, 'cause now it's after Christmas, the rest of us are like, 'Bring me those flowers and put them right here!'"
But all jokes aside, Washington said playing "hide the bump" was actually really "fun."

"Our crew is so lovable and they make it work," she said. "Whether I'm hiding behind Tony [Goldwyn's] leg, it's great. It's so fun."

Now a mother of two, the New York City native said she's happy to officially be back to work, sans baby bump!

"I'm just so grateful for my job," she gushed. "I'm so, so grateful that I get to do what I love to do, with people that I love, with scripts that I love -- the entire crew, it's such a family."
"It's hard to leave your family as a working mom," she continued, "but it's easier when you're going to a family."

Washington told ET it helps that she's allowed to bring her children to set. "Yeah, I'm very lucky that I get to do that," she said.

During the TCA press session for Scandal on Tuesday, Washington also revealed that the way she approaches her character, Olivia Pope, has changed dramatically since becoming a mother of two. She and her husband, former NFL pro Nnamdi Asomugha, also share 2-year-old daughter, Isabelle.

"It has taught me how to grow my toolbox to lean into other areas of grounding her, other than just kind of the walk -- the walk has become more of a waddle," she confessed. "That's been really good for me and an exercise for me as an actor."
