Emily Ratajkowski Says This Misconception About Her Dating Life Has Been 'Killing' Her

Emily Ratajkowski wants eyes off of her dating life.

When it comes to misconceptions about her personal life, Emily Ratajkowski is setting some blurred lines straight.

More than a year after she filed for divorce from her husband of four years, Sebastian Bear-McClard, who the model is dating has become a subject of enduring attention. However, as the 32-year-old mom made clear in a new interview with Glamour UK, she's the furthest from interested in such chatter.

"The recent thing that's been killing me is that I somehow want people to know what’s going on in my personal life," she tells the magazine. "I just want to set the record straight. In a custody battle, if you are a single mother who's dating, then it is not a good look."

Of her 2-year-old son, Sylvester, Ratajkowski says, "The most important thing for my child is him being safe and us being together. I would never risk that."

Notes the My Body author, "Just pragmatically, if you know anything about the court system, you know anything about divorce, there is a decent amount of sexism embroiled in that and embedded in that system. And the most important thing for me is my child. So let's just put that idea to rest. It's hard on the relationships and it’s hard for me personally."

As for trying to hide her romances, it seems like a lose-lose situation for Ratajkowski. "I could do the very crazy, high-profile thing of going through the back door, blah, blah, blah. And I haven't done that. And there's been a few moments over the past year, even in the last six months, where I've been like 'OK, well, I can’t keep having this experience,' so I want to hide… and I’ve done that successfully, but then it's like the one time I’m out on the street, it's a photo," she explains. "So, I think I’ve just given up on trying to control it, for better or for worse…"

"Basically I have sort of accepted that there's only so much I can do to keep my private life private," she says. "And I want to enjoy my life, and if that means that everyone has an opinion on what I’m doing, then so be it."

In the meantime, Ratajkowski is carrying on with her life -- and giving herself and others in similar situations a pat on the back. "I think that there's a lot of taboo around divorce and a lot of shame and I think that that isn't helpful, particularly for young women who are trying to get out of bad relationships," she previously told ET. "I want to spread a little positivity and I think that divorce, deciding to leave a relationship despite the financial hardship, despite what it's going to mean for your kids, everything, is really brave and I want women to feel better about it."
