<p>The <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=20831&amp;awinaffid=783627&amp;clickref=162078&amp;ued=https%3A%2F%2Fopte.com%2Fproducts%2Fopte-precision-system" target="_blank">Opte Precision Skincare</a> device is here to challenge how we do our makeup. But will this new beauty tool really do away with our tried-and-true brushes and beloved foundations? The brand was generous enough to send us one of these highly-coveted devices to try, so I volunteered as tribute. Now I'm here to share whether this new beauty tool is a must or an overrated skincare bust.</p>

<p>Opte&nbsp;uses blue light technology&nbsp;to digitally scan your skin, analyze your complexion, and then works to camouflage age spots, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation on contact while fading their appearance over time.&nbsp;The new innovative technology (it’s been 10 years in the making) is said&nbsp;to be a skincare-meets-makeup routine that’s like, as Paris Hilton has said, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CGnhLC2hnmx/" target="_blank">“facetune” IRL</a>. The star and socialite&nbsp;recently raved about the Opte system on her website, stating it’s one of her ‘top beauty secrets’ for flawless skin. She also gifted her BFF Kim Kardashian West with the Opte Precision Skincare system, and in the video the brand posted to Instagram, she tells her straight up, ‘it’s like Facetune.’</p>

<p>And with that, we were intrigued. So ET tapped their beauty editor, Kristen Gill (me), to give Opte a whirl.</p>

<p>I am 31-years-young, my&nbsp;skin is decently clear with a few sunspots and capillaries showing through under my eyes and around my nostril area with some texture on my cheeks. I’ve been using the Opte wand for almost three weeks now -- hoping it would make my spots and things disappear...&nbsp;so let’s get into the details.</p>

<p><strong>Wand + Tip:</strong> A high-tech handheld wand that uses a digital camera and a blue light to scan and detect spots to apply the serum.</p>

<p><strong>Optimizing Serum:</strong> Opte says its formula combines mineral pigments with no added sulfates, parabens, dyes, artificial colors, formaldehyde, phthalates, fragrances, or any animal-derived ingredients and has ‘powerful skincare ingredients,’ and powered by 5% niacinamide (aka: Vitamin B, an anti-inflammatory) to visibly fade dark spots over time.</p>

<p><strong>How It Works:</strong></p>

<p>The Opte wand functions basically&nbsp;like a handheld printer, it looks just like that and is about the size of a 3oz travel-size lotion bottle. The size of the cradle it lives in is equivalent to a medium-sized makeup bag, so I had to take that into account when deciding where to charge this thing. I needed a bit of space (permanently if I decide to implement this into my everyday life) as the cradle and wand must be plugged in at all times so I chose an outlet beside my bed. It’s moved from my desk to the bathroom to my bedside table, where it lives now. FYI: If you unplug the cradle, the wand will not work.</p>

<p><strong>Application:</strong></p>

<p>The brand suggests using soft, feather-light pressure when applying. For best results when applying the product, Opte suggests using its ‘4 S technique’: Soft, Slow, Straight, and Sweep. As a self-proclaimed queen of exfoliating, the spikes on the rollers had me wanting to do just the opposite as it looks like an exfoliating tool. I ended up pressing the wand into the skin with some pressure because that seemed natural. Do not do this! My face turned bright red post-use, and I learned my lesson very quickly.</p>

<p>The wand deposits small amounts of a facial serum with pigment to treat and cover dark spots. In addition to being an immediate solution to a more visibly even skin tone, the device aims to minimize the appearance of dark spots over time. (Verdict is still out on that for us - we’re only three weeks in.)</p>

<p>Opte offers three shades (light, medium and dark). I have a lighter skin tone and used the shade ‘fair’ which at first glance, appeared too light&nbsp;but blended in throughout the day. Opte says the camouflage should last from 8-10 hours, and I did not notice it wearing off.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Something to note: As the wand scans for dark spots on your skin, it will make clicking noises, as it detects the spots to cover. Don’t worry, that means it’s working.</p>

<p>The desired result is to even out your skin tone&nbsp;so that you will not need additional makeup. However, I didn’t feel the coverage was enough to match my usual everyday medium coverage application.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other important caveats to note: If you have darker circles under your eyes, severe skin ailments or rosacea, the brand’s site says the product will not cover or solve these issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Within three days of use, my skin felt tight and dry. I assume the tightening came from the blue light, but I should mention that this tool is not to be considered ‘<a href="https://www.etonline.com/the-best-16-beauty-tools-to-try-in-2021-clarisonic-dyson-nuface-and-more-134660" target="_blank">blue light therapy</a>.’ The blue light is there simply to detect the places on your skin that need correction and is not meant to be used without the accompanying foundation.</p>

<p>On the real, for anyone with <a href="https://www.etonline.com/skinstore-anniversary-sale-save-up-to-50-off-147693" target="_blank">imperfect skin</a>, this will not be a dead ringer for Facetune or Photoshop IRL (sorry, Paris). But if you’re blessed with a relatively clear complexion and don’t like applying a full face of makeup, this could work for you.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I was expecting a more polished version of my skin with a decent,&nbsp;light coverage. While I thought the Facetune claim was too good to be true, I was hopeful. However, I didn’t see much of a difference between my face with or without makeup. (And I went over my face a few times to build coverage.) If you love the no-makeup look, this is definitely in your wheelhouse. As someone who has some light hyperpigmentation, texture and who likes both light and heavy makeup, this will not work for a ‘night on the town’ type of coverage for me.</p>

<p>Although I didn’t see permanent results in my three weeks of use, I will include&nbsp;Opte in&nbsp;my makeup and skin care&nbsp;routine for the next few weeks to see whether I will get the lasting results I was looking for. And while the hybrid of makeup and skincare is something I’ve been incredibly excited to experiment with, I don’t see this device completely replacing my foundation routine as I’m a makeup lover to my core. But, for those days when I’m looking for a natural Zoom-ready face, I’ll be reaching for the Opte.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Before using the wand, I prepped my skin as if I was getting ready for the day and moisturized with my everyday Tatcha moisturizer and under eye cream.</p>

<p>When you hear the name beautyblender, you think of that little hot pink sponge that changed the makeup game. Airbrushed finish? You have&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/reaannsilva/?hl=en" target="_blank">Rea Ann Silva</a>, the founder of that little egg, to thank for&nbsp;the sponge that revolutionized the beauty industry.</p>

<p>ET&nbsp;spoke with Rea earlier this month, where she revealed, "The inspiration really came from necessity! I was working on the makeup set for the show <em>Girlfriends</em> and it was shot in HD, so I needed something that made the actors and actresses look flawless on camera."&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/desiperkins/?hl=en" target="_blank">Desi Perkins</a>, who is of Spanish and Mexican descent, and her bestie, Katy DeGroot, may be the YouTube beauty community's favorite duo. The pair has&nbsp;launched two successful collaborations with Dose of Colors and Desi x Katy's second launch was a&nbsp;true fan-favorite. Although Desi recently revealed to&nbsp;ET that the powerful trio has&nbsp;no future plans for a third launch, fans can&nbsp;still&nbsp;shop their collection online and at Ulta Beauty.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's one of my proudest moments for me and I think it's great to see someone else that came from not a lot and is living their dreams," Desi shared.&nbsp;"My mom immigrated here at a young age and she worked her a** off my whole life to make sure we had what we needed.&nbsp;She's been working so, so much for as long as I can remember, non-stop, I don't know how she did it."</p>

<p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/mannymua733/?hl=en" target="_blank">Manny MUA</a>'s brand, Lunar Beauty, is out of this world.&nbsp;The 28-year-old entrepreneur, who grew up in a strict Latino household and&nbsp;got his start in makeup working at MAC and Sephora, took off in the beauty world after starting a tutorial-based YouTube channel in 2014 and made it on <em>Forbes</em>'<em> </em>30 Under 30 list<em> </em>in 2018.</p>

<p>"I've been all about inclusion [and]&nbsp;diversity ever since my day one. I'm a boy in beauty, it's been diversity since&nbsp;the moment I came onto the scene," he recently explained to ET.</p>

<p>"For me, it hits me at nighttime. I'm such a nighttime creature, that's why it's [called] Lunar Beauty.&nbsp;I'm so inspired by the moon," Manny shared.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new&nbsp;Moon Spell&nbsp;palette, inspired by his nocturnal ways,&nbsp;dropped earlier this month.</p>

<p><em><strong>Pro Tip #2:</strong></em> Use bronzer to smoke out the lower lash line. This “opens up the eyes and gives you that smokey look without looking too harsh.” Bronzer looks more natural as opposed to an eye shadow.</p>

<strong><em>Pro Tip: </em></strong>Measure the lashes to your eye shape before applying the falsies. Always wait 30 seconds to a minute before applying, or at least until the lash glue is tacky.</p>

<p><strong>Step 5:</strong> Glow - Highlight, Highlight, Highlight!</p>

<p>As long as it’s in the right places. Putting highlighting products in a C-shape right above your cheekbone (above the bronzer and blush), down the bridge and on the tip of the nose, on the cupid’s bow (FYI this is the area above your upper lip and below your nose), as well as your chin! Also, alternating between liquids and powders works best and builds up the product without looking too overdone.</p>
<p><em><strong>Pro Tip:</strong></em> Liquid highlights photograph more naturally but as long as you use a damp beauty sponge to blend the product into the skin it will look seamless.</p>
<p><strong>Step 6: </strong>Nude Lip</p>

<p>When it came to the "Mayores" shoot, Etienne explained, “Becky is such a little genius with her music videos. She directed it herself, she came up with the concept, with the idea. Music videos are actually my favorite thing to do. That's where I really get to play and be creative!” He gushed, “[Becky] always brings her ideas and then I put my input in. [It was] definitely a collaboration, she's very open and so fun to work with!”</p>

When I thought of this silver tone I was like, <em>Zenon</em>!”</p>
<p><em><strong>Pro Tip:</strong></em> “With a smokey eye, it's really important to layer and to diffuse everything, blend everything out to get a really seamless finish. If you're ever in doubt, just keep blending! That’s what I always tell people!”</p>

Over-line your lips&nbsp;“to give it more of a sexy vibe!” For this look, Etienne used MAC Cosmetic’s "Spice" lip pencil and his “favorite nude gloss ever,” Kevyn Aucoin's lip gloss in "Vesuvian."</p>

<p>In honor of Demi Lovato’s sixth studio album, <em>Tell Me You Love Me</em>, hitting stores on Sept.&nbsp;29, her makeup artist, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jillpowellglam/?hl=en" target="_blank">Jill Powell</a>, dropped by<em>&nbsp;</em>ET for a new installment of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RWObhOl9Po" target="_blank"><em>How-To Hollywood</em></a> and taught us how to achieve the Glamazon look she created for the singer during a&nbsp;recent "Sorry Not Sorry" performance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jill has worked with Demi going on six years now -- &nbsp;creating almost&nbsp;every makeup look you’ve seen Demi rock&nbsp;-- and she gushed, “She’s almost like a little sister to me.” From music videos to red carpet events, Jill has been the mastermind behind that glowing skin, bold brows and those perfect lashes -- we’ll get to those later!</p>

<p>The Temecula, California-based mother of two&nbsp;started her career 16 years ago with her first job at MAC Cosmetics. Jill says the 25-year-old singer was her first celebrity client, recalling when she flew to New York City almost six years ago to work with Demi for the first time. She remembers, “We did this amazing red lip and she loved it and she said, ‘Are you available tomorrow?’ I said, ‘Sure’ and the rest is history!”</p>

<p>Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to achieve Demi’s mega-glam "Sorry Not Sorry" look:</p>

<p><strong>Step 1:&nbsp;Moisturize / Prime</strong></p>

<p><strong><em>Pro Tip:</em></strong> Jill will opt for a moisture serum instead of a moisturizer and in this case she used&nbsp;Giorgio Armani Prima Smart Moisture Serum. “Your makeup will stick to it and it won't slide off,” she explains, “Demi performs a lot, so I always want to make sure that her makeup stays on. So this is something for performance. I'll skip moisturizer and just do the moisture serum.”</p>

<p>Also to note, Jill says massaging the product into your skin will “really get the circulation going in your face and you'll find that you'll be more glowy. My thing is glowing skin!”</p>

<p><strong><em>Pro Tip #2:</em></strong> Jill reveals primer is her “secret weapon” to maintaining Demi’s sweat-proof makeup. “It's Hourglass Veil Primer.&nbsp;If you sweat, you can just pat and it's back to normal like regular makeup.”</p>

I like to create like, a normal dimension on your face instead of doing one color all over.” The makeup guru creates “dimension” on the face by adding darker shades to the forehead and contours of the cheeks -- “where the sun naturally hits is the high planes of your face,” she explains.</p>

<p>Using a dense brush to apply foundation will allow the products to blend well together.</p>

<p><strong>Step 3: Concealer</strong></p>

<p><strong><em>Pro Tip:</em></strong> Mix concealer that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone with a corrective shade of concealer.&nbsp;In this case, she used Nars Creamy Concealer.&nbsp;“Mix in a little bit more of a peachy tone. Peach is a mixture between pink and orange and yellow so it's actually combating your blue, your green and your purple, which are underneath your eyes.”</p>

<p>Jill says she likes to start with perfecting the face, “I always do the face first.&nbsp;If you're doing art, you want a blank canvas, so for me, I like to perfect my canvas and then I can really create the art on top of it.”</p>

<p><strong>Step 4: Contour / Bronze </strong></p>

<p><em><strong>Pro Tip:</strong></em> Prime your eyelids before applying eye shadow. This will help conceal your lids and cancel out any dark pigmentation.</p>

<p>Always start with matte eye shadows through the crease of your eye with a fluffy blending brush. “I find that creating dimension in the eyes really helps me to place things. Everything just builds into it. For the lid, I did want it to stand out a little bit, so we did add a tiny bit of shimmer while keeping it really natural.”</p>

Jill admits the outfit Demi was wearing during her performance was what inspired the pop of blue under the eyes, “It was almost a surprise element!”</p>

My favorite tip -- I don’t ever apply a full strip anymore. I take my lashes and I cut them up three knots, that's my secret! It bends with your eye, so you will notice when you’re wearing them, they’re not as heavy, the inside doesn’t bother you. Sometimes I'll create my own lash!”</p>
