Zayn Malik Admits He Does Not Know If He's Ever 'Truly Been in Love'

One Direction alum Zayn Malik shared a very candid confession about his romantic history.

Fans may think they know the story of Zayn Malik's life, but he's made an admission that is getting attention.

The former One Direction member dropped a revelation in a new interview on the Zach Sang Show, released on Wednesday.

"I don’t know if I’ve ever actually truly been in love at this point," he told Sang. While it would not be so surprising for someone to say that, the 31-year-old singer is making headlines for his confession considering the fact that he was in two longterm relationships with fellow celebrities. He dated Little Mix's Perrie Edwards and the two got engaged in 2013 before calling it quits two years later. He and Gigi Hadid later began an on-and-off relationship and welcomed their daughter, Khai, 3, in 2020. The two split for good in 2021 following Malik's alleged altercation with Hadid's mom, Yolanda

When Sang pointed out that Malik can say he's in love with his daughter, the performer explained why he would not consider that the same thing.

"I’m in love with her as my child," he said, as opposed to being "in love with somebody who is a complete separate entity -- they’re not my family, I have no blood with them, like, I’m in love with this person, you know? I don’t know."

While whether they shared true love is undecided, Malik and Hadid have been working together as co-parents for years now. "Their relationship is in a much healthier spot than it once was," a source told ET in July 2023. "They are both set on providing their baby girl with the most stable and normal upbringing and life that they possibly can."

Around that same time, he addressed their equally shared custody in a rare interview on Call Her Daddy, telling host Alex Cooper, "Co-parenting is good... We have a really good relationship for Khai. She's the, you know, the main importance."

As for life in Pennsylvania, the private Malik -- who is set to release his fourth solo studio album this month -- credits his daughter with helping him get out of the house. "I'm a dad. We go to Disney on Ice," he said, "or Nickelodeon or, you know, Broadway Frozen show."
