Josiah Duggar and Wife Lauren Reveal They Had a Miscarriage

The couple found out they were expecting just weeks earlier.

Josiah and Lauren Duggar are opening up about a difficult time in the lives.

In a sneak peek of season four of TLC's Counting On, the couple, who wed last June, discuss a devastating event that occurred just four months after they tied the knot. Initially the newlyweds discovered they were pregnant, but ahead of a trip, Lauren began feeling ill.

"Lauren and I were actually preparing for a trip, just to go to a friend's wedding over the weekend," Josiah, 22, explains in the clip. "She was feeling really sick and started noticing some different things. [Lauren's mom] Mrs. Swanson was there, so she was able to kind of help her out. I didn't know exactly what was going on."

At first, Lauren, 19, thought she was negatively reacting to something she ate, but soon discovered that it was much more serious.

"I wasn't feeling well. I was cramping really, really bad, which was quite strange because I normally don't," she says. "And I was thinking maybe I had something that had gluten in it. So, that's what I was thinking."

"Well, it was late in the night and I went to go to the restroom and right there was the baby. Gone," she emotionally reveals through tears. "I couldn't believe it and I was hoping it wasn't true."

The couple announced their courtship last January after becoming closer during a family trip to Australia and New Zealand. The pair made things official in March, getting engaged less than two months after their courtship began. They married in June 2018 and honeymooned in Vienna, Austria, in honor of Lauren's love of The Sound of Music.

Season four of Counting On premieres Monday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. ET.
