Olivia Munn Surprises Mom With a Home Makeover

The 37-year-old actress said she had an uphill battle in impressing her mother, who jokingly said she said isn't quick to show gratefulness.

Olivia Munn wanted to do it up huge for her mom on Mother's Day: renovating her house.

But she wasn't quite sure what Mom's response would be when she to told her about it, the 37-year-old actress shared with ET. Munn's renovation gift is featured on the latest episode of My Houzz, an online series that follows folks who renovate homes of people that are meaningful to them. Past episodes have featured Ashton KutcherMila Kunis and Ludacris renovating their parents' places.

The X-Men alum sat down with ET as she prepared for the Met Gala and provided an exclusive look into the episode as well as an opportunity to meet her sweet, but very difficult-to-impress mom.

"My mother is just kind of inherently a little ungrateful," Munn said. "I said, 'Mom, I'm going to redo that whole entertaining space for you and give you the chef's kitchen that you deserve, that you will want.' And she said, 'That's good, but my greenhouse is also broken and the guest bathroom needs to be fixed.' And I said, 'Mm-hmm.'"

In the episode, Munn recounts a hilarious moment from her childhood as she and her four siblings awaited their mother's reaction to receiving Mother's Day cards.

"My mom is not very sentimental when we were kids. So, we'd come home from school with our Mother's Day cards that we'd made for her with construction paper," she recalls on the show. "We'd give it to her and we'd sit there, waiting for a response and she'd look at it and go, 'OK, thank you,' and then throw it into the trash immediately."

Mom's response?

"I had five kids," she notes. "Because we were moving around, I cannot keep so many things."

Fair enough. But mom's gratefulness is fully on display as her newly renovated home is revealed to her.

"So beautiful!" she says in a clip of the episode, her jaw dropping open. "My goodness!"
