Former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton has stepped away from the mega-successful girl group to instead focus on her work as a solo artist. The powerhouse singer opens up to ET’s Deidre Behar about her new EP, ‘Lioness Eyes,’ and the themes, messages and significance behind the music. Melody spoke candidly about writing the track ‘Phoenix Rise’ and the subsequent music video, which pays tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement and social injustice. She also opens up about writing songs inspired by a tough heartbreak and her dream of finding love again. But to bring ‘Lioness Eyes’ to life as an independent artist, Melody had to make several financial sacrifices, including selling her home and car and choosing to live on tour around the world. Now, those hard decisions are paying off as she recently released her EP and is set to perform a virtual concert through Hotel Cafe on Sept. 4.
